Princess Máxima officially opened the building by unveiling the company’s new logo in the presence of Van Leeuwen employees, customers and business relations from the Netherlands and abroad. Balloons, confetti and music underscored the festive occasion. The Princess received a guided tour through the new office building and the nearby pipe and tube trade and storage facility.

Peter Rietberg, Chairman of the Board of the Van Leeuwen Pipe and Tube Group hosted the opening, which was co-hosted by Joop Sassen, CEO. Among those present was the Queen’s Commissioner for the Province of South-Holland, Mr. Jan Franssen, and the Mayor of the Municipality of Zwijndrecht, Mr. Antoin Scholten. The former Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Clarien Rietberg and Mrs. Nelly Rietberg-Van Leeuwen, daughter of the company’s founder, were also present during the official opening. 

The new head office is located at the most western point of the Swinhaven grounds along the Old Meuse. These grounds have for years accommodated the offices, warehouses and outside storage facilities for Van Leeuwen’s branch in Zwijndrecht. The building materials used are inspired by the surroundings, such as the water and reed fringes of the adjacent river landscape. The use of solar and wind energy and underground thermal energy storage makes the office one of the most energy efficient offices in the Netherlands.

Peter Rietberg, Chairman of the Board of Directors: “The new office environment is inspiring due to its magnificent view of the river, the Old Meuse, but especially due to its view of the pipe and tube storage grounds from which customers throughout the world are supplied with our tubes and pipes. Van Leeuwen will provide its strategy and growth further direction from this new head office. We are proud of the fact that Her Royal Highness Princes Máxima has performed the official opening.”
