Door Petra van Zandvoort - Single source solution for fluid power industry
Pipe and tube specialist distributor Van Leeuwen Wheeler has expanded its offer to the fluid power industry to provide a single source solution for cylinder manufacturers.
The development follows the acquisition by Van Leeuwen Wheeler of the UK hydraulics business of oil and gas industry specialist Energy Alloys. This deal has effectively seen Van Leeuwen Wheeler move into the number one position in the market for the supply of tube and bar product to the fluid power industry.
Colin Beal, a fluid-power specialist who joined the business from Energy Alloys says: “By merging the hydraulics capabilities of both businesses, we are achieving considerable service improvements. The expansion of our processing capabilities now enables us to offer a first-class service to both the OEM and repair and maintenance sectors of the market. The key benefit for our customers is our ability to supply a complete materials package for cylinder manufacturers which, apart from the seals, allows customers to buy all their requirements from a single source.”
Product ranges include extensive stocks of chrome-plated bar and skived and roller burnished cylinder tube in a wide range of grades and specifications, tube suitable for honing and skiving, smooth bore tubing and cast iron bar in various grades. These ranges are supported by a wide range of hot finished heavy walled mechanical tube for the manufacture of large diameter cylinders.
To meet the growing call for anti-corrosion products, Van Leeuwen Wheeler has also increased its range of stainless product. Colin Beal: “There is a move within the UK hydraulics and pneumatics market towards niche markets with higher-specifications, for example dockside/marine applications where equipment is used in more aggressive environments. We not only supply a wide range of grades and specifications in stainless steel, we also have an experienced team of hydraulics experts within our business to provide technical support.”
