Van Leeuwen the first to be certified for new ISO 9001:2015

ZWIJNDRECHT, the Netherlands, 14 December 2015 – Van Leeuwen Pipe and Tube Group is the first to be certified for the new ISO 9001:2015 standard by Lloyd’s Register (LRQA) in the Netherlands. Van Leeuwen is the first company in continental Europe to receive this certificate based on the LRQA audit in early October. It was officially awarded to Van Leeuwen on Friday 11 December.

Characteristic of the new standard are aspects such as context analysis, stakeholder management and a better risk approach. Paul Bokdam, Sales Director Central Europe of LRQA: “Van Leeuwen went to work with this new standard at a very early stage and shows with this certificate that new developments can be integrated quickly.” Paul Bokdam of LRQA officially awarded the certificate on Friday 11 December to the Chairman of the Board of Van Leeuwen, Peter Rietberg, in the presence of Ineke Dezentjé Hamming-Bluemink, Chairman of FME, the Employers' Organisation for the Technological Industry.

Peter Rietberg, Chairman of the Board of the Van Leeuwen Pipe and Tube Group: “As a leading and innovative distributor and specialist in steel pipe and tube applications, Van Leeuwen is committed to lead the way in compliance with this new standard in quality management. It also fits in with our aim of continuous improvement in our product range and services.”

ISO 9001:2015

The successor of the ISO 9001:2008 standard was recently issued. The amendments concern aspects such as stakeholder management, risk management, documentation and leadership. Processes in the organization must be subject to continuous improvement. Companies must more explicitly communicate with their stakeholders, including customers, partners and suppliers. The organization is seen more as an entity that is aware of its role in society and the chain. The organization naturally serves its customers and cooperates with suppliers to improve processes and decrease cost. There is more focus on the responsibility of the management. In addition to measuring process performance, the risks are also measured and analyzed.

The International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) apply a three-year transition period ending in September 2018. After September 2018, certificates issued based on ISO 9001:2008 are no longer applicable.
