What is Duplex and Super Duplex?

Duplex steel is a 2-phase structure of austenitic and ferritic stainless steel. This combines the best properties of both and ensures high strength as well as good corrosion resistance. Compared to the regular austenitic stainless steel qualities, Duplex steel is twice as strong and has a considerably higher corrosion resistance. Moreover, it offers a high toughness and a good weldability.

Because of these properties, Duplex steel is often used in the oil- and gas industry, the (petro)chemical industry, in the production of paper and pulp, in the shipbuilding industry and for desalination installations. Its high strength makes Duplex steel very resistant against material fatigue. Therefore, it is also used more and more in infrastructural projects.
