Testing and material inspections

Van Leeuwen facilitates or carries out many (non) destructive material tests and inspections for our customers. For this purpose, we invite inspection agencies like Lloyd's, TüV or Veritas for supervision.

Destructive tests

In case of destructive tests, samples are taken from the material to be tested. Therefore, there is always a loss of material for destructive testing. The most common destructive inspection is a 3.2 inspection, which takes place under the supervision of an inspection agency. Of course, we also carry out other inspections to test the material on properties like tensile strength, yield or hardness, such as:

  • Tensile strength test
  • Hot yield test
  • Impact test at different temperatures
  • Bending test
  • Flaring test
  • Ring tensile test
  • Ring bending test
  • Ring flaring test
  • Hardness test
  • Spectral analysis
  • Positive Material Identification (PMI) test

Non-destructive tests

Non-destructive tests are carried out to check material for faults in the surface or structure, without changing the physical condition of the material. The most common non-destructive tests are:

  • Ultrasonic test
  • Magnetic Particle Examination (MPE) test
  • Ferrite test
  • Huye test
  • Eddy Current test

Inspections

Materials can be (visually) inspected before shipment. This can be performed by one of our own qualified inspectors, by the customer or by an independent third party selected by the customer.

Product Quality

We supply quality products at a competitive price. This is accomplished by worldwide sourcing at carefully selected suppliers. By means of regular mill audits and continuous performance measurements we check if our suppliers meet our high quality standards.

Many of our products are certified according to the European standard EN 10204/3.1 or 3.2 (formerly 3.1.b and 3.1a/c). Please read more about the different certification documents here.

Van Leeuwen is ISO ISO9001, ISO45001 and for some locations ISO14001 approved. For more information go to Quality Assurance where you can also download these approval documents.
