Eems Energy LNG Terminal

In the last months of 2022, Van Leeuwen has supplied a major package of pipes, fittings and flanges for the Eems Energy Terminal (EET) in the Eemshaven in Groningen, the Netherlands.

At this location, Gasunie has developed an LNG import facility, including 2 FSRU’s (Floating Storage Regassification Units) with a capacity of 8 bcm (billion cubic meters) per year. Gasunie Transport Services will further distribute the gas in the Netherlands via its national gas pipeline network. This project was considered a vital part of the gas infrastructure to guarantee gas supply in the coming years. Therefore, it was subject to a very challenging time schedule. The project should start operations within a year.

Van Leeuwen supplied a complete package of pipes, fittings and flanges in carbon steel, stainless and duplex materials. Van Leeuwen could adhere to the “extreme tight schedule” due to our good position of available stocks in several locations and our network of strategic suppliers throughout Europe. All was managed by our well-experienced and dedicated project and logistics team. Van Leeuwen supplied both the materials and arranged the full logistical service up to delivery at the project site in Eemshaven.

Meanwhile, gas flows into the Dutch pipeline network from this new terminal. We are proud of our contribution to this important project, which has been developed to reduce our dependence on Russian gas.

Wheatstone LNG Plant

The Wheatstone Project is one of Australia’s largest resource developments, operated by Chevron. It has an onshore facility located at the Ashburton North Strategic Industrial Area, 7.4 miles (12 km) west of Onslow in Western Australia’s Pilbara region. The foundation project includes two liquefied natural gas (LNG) trains and a domestic gas plant. At full capacity, the Wheatstone Project’s two train LNG facility will supply 8.9 million metric tons per year of LNG for export to customers in Asia.

Bechtel Western Australia Pty Ltd was awarded with the EPC contract for the Wheatstone LNG project. In September 2012 Bechtel awarded Van Leeuwen Pipe & Tube West Australia with the Blanket Purchase Order for the supply of carbon, low carbon, alloy, high alloy and stainless steel pipe, butt weld fittings, forged flanges and vessolets. An international dedicated project team working from the Netherlands, Singapore, Houston and Western Australia managed the project from the beginning to the end. The PFF materials were sourced from more than 25 different mills in Europe, US, South America and Korea. Moreover, the team took care of expediting, inspections, coordination of the logistics, quality assurance and final documentation.

The material was supplied for construction to the various module yards in the Far East (China, Malaysia, Indonesia) and the Middle East as well as to the jobsite in Western Australia. Once built, these modules were shipped to the jobsite in Onslow, Western Australia.
